Station Libertad 11
Novel Summary
- In a future where humanity has achieved harmony and galactic expansion, Station Libertad 11 stands as one of the most advanced technological wonders. This station houses citizens in ViVi (Virtual Life) mode, individuals who have chosen to extend their existence within a controlled digital environment.
- Four young recruits—Alan, Génesis, Aarón, and Aria—arrive at the station for rigorous training to become operators responsible for maintaining this vast system. Throughout their journey, they go through various learning stations, exploring themes such as responsibility, fear, faith, and community. As part of their training, they experience simulations of humanity’s past Eras, periods of conflict and suffering that ultimately led to the utopian 5th Era.
- In the Era 1 simulation, the protagonists live in a world where humanity survives under the constant threat of "zumbadores"—drones programmed to eliminate adults under certain conditions. In this hostile environment, they discover the true value of community and human resilience. Alan, in particular, struggles with an existential crisis, questioning the meaning of his life in a universe where everything seems predetermined and controlled.
- Guided by their mentor Diego and the station’s AI in the form of a cat, MOCHI, the young recruits must overcome emotional and philosophical trials that challenge their perspectives. As their training nears its end, they uncover a profound truth: they themselves had chosen this path in past lives.
- Their friendships, their training, and even their struggles were not coincidences—they were intentional choices made across lifetimes to grow together and prepare for their roles in preserving humanity’s legacy. This revelation transforms their understanding of their purpose, proving that their journey is not just about operating the station, but about fulfilling a destiny they once set for themselves.
1 - Immense Creation
Alan gazed in deep admiration at the ship’s vast dome. The observation and command bay—designed to accommodate a hundred people—was currently operated by only four young pilots on the EXODO. Outside, a gigantic, blazing sun ruled the sky, its brilliance nearly blinding until, drawing closer, they could discern the massive protective corridor the station had constructed to shield them from its relentless radiation.
Génesis, meanwhile, had fallen utterly silent; her awe had long since overwhelmed her. Approaching a star at such close range was a singular, wondrous experience—a living testament to human ingenuity: the ability to harness a sun’s power to forge existence itself. It was indescribable. Génesis’s joy was immense—these were the moments when destiny and challenge converged, marking the greatest test of their past lives.
Génesis was a young and stunning girl. Although her body was designed to appear as that of a 17-year-old, she had existed for only 19 years. She had been granted the extraordinary privilege of retaining experiences from her past life in the realms of science and art. She cherished every memory of planet Libertad—one of the most beautiful worlds in the galaxy—but now, she longed to experience the four-year journey safeguarding human experience at Station Libertad 11.
Alan admired Génesis’s beauty; she was slightly taller than him, with broad shoulders and an elegant, generous figure. He believed every attribute was perfectly balanced—especially as her uniform accentuated her graceful legs. With Génesis completely absorbed in the sight of the approaching ViVi Station, Alan allowed himself a private moment of admiration, convinced that his secret was safe… or so he thought.
A playful voice then broke the reverie:
“—Really, do you think you can just stand there admiring Génesis and come out unscathed, my friend? Aria’s been watching you drool for the last five minutes. You know she’ll recall every detail later.”
Alan grinned, a blush creeping across his cheeks as he replied, “—Sorry, Aarón—I got distracted by the arrival,” all while his fingers danced over the ship’s controls, causing his face to flicker with a cascade of instrument-panel colors (though his natural skin tone remained unchanged). “Isn’t it incredible? At last, Station Libertad 11 is here—ready to welcome seven billion human lives, all transported by us.”
Aarón laughed and retorted teasingly, “—Oh, come on, man. Don’t act like you’re the star of the show. You know as well as I do that the ship—and its AI—handle everything. Those buttons you pressed? They were merely to get a better view of the dome and station… and, of course, to cast a little shade on Génesis so you can admire her endlessly flowing hair.”
“—Alright, alright,” Alan conceded with a chuckle. “You know how gossipy Aria can be. If you don’t help me out, I’m doomed—Génesis won’t show me any mercy, and I’ll be even more at her disposal.”
Aarón shook his head with a teasing smirk. “—You’re already at the mercy of her charms. I can’t save you, but don’t worry—I won’t spill your little secret. I’ll even repeat your fib if it calms you down.”
Then, a deep, resonant sound broke through the chamber’s hush—a sound that seemed to echo through the void of space:
“—Welcome, citizens in training! In precisely one hour and twelve minutes, you will arrive at Station Libertad 11—the most advanced and youthful prototype ViVi station in Sector Alpha. I am DORIS, the AI of this vessel. I command this EXODO-type transport ship, series 4579101112. Currently, we are transporting a vast assembly of citizens living in ViVi (Virtual Life) mode, destined to become permanent inhabitants of this experimental station. Our journey began at Station Libertad 8, and soon we will initiate operations at this new, enhanced station, boasting a significantly greater capacity to house human experiences.
“This sun, endowed with an extended lifespan, is situated in one of the safest regions of the galaxy—ensuring that the human species may endure for billions of years. The capacity of Station Libertad 11 will be rigorously tested with your training; we are set to accommodate seven billion lives, reaching 3% of the station’s total capacity. These trials allow us to secure a new home for countless people who place their trust in us, seeking full lives as citizens of the ‘5th Era.’ Like many ancient planets in our galaxy, planet Libertad consistently supports at least ten ViVi-type stations. However, thanks to the advancements achieved in our current cycle-calendar, we now have the opportunity to enhance both the capacity and security of this planetary technology.
“This is a monumental achievement for humanity. With your assistance, we expect great results in future cycle-calendars. Note that this station was constructed a mere 5,211 years ago and is now ready to serve as a new home for the eternal humanity of the ‘5th Era.’”
Aria’s teasing voice interjected once more, “—Enough already, Alan! Can’t you see this is the most crucial part of our journey?”
Alan replied with playful indignation, “—Oh, come on, Aria! This is the arrival we’ve all been waiting for.”
“—Exactly!” Aarón chimed in. “Imagine all the amenities awaiting us on a station whose technical marvels stretch across thousands of planetary scales!”
“—I’m not sure I can handle more distractions,” Aria muttered with a playful glint in her eyes.
